Sasuke Uchiha (うちはサスケ, Uchiha Sasuke) is a missing-nin of Konohagakure. He hails from Konohagakure's Uchiha clan and was a member of Team Kakashi. He is also the leader of Team Taka, which consists of Suigetsu Hozuki, Karin, and Jūgo.

Itachi and young Sasuke

Sasuke and Itachi when they were younger.

During his early childhood, Sasuke greatly admired his older brother Itachi, wanting to be more like him. Even though he would often be too busy to hang out with Sasuke, he would enjoy what little quality time they could together. On one fateful night, Itachi massacred every member of the Uchiha clan, sparing only Sasuke, saying that he was not even worth killing.

Sasuke with his teammates

Sasuke and his team-mates when they were genin.

After the massacre, Sasuke graduated from the Academy, became a genin and was teamed up with Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno and under the guidance of Kakashi Hatake. Later, Sasuke also awakened his Sharingan. Noticing how far the team has gotten stronger, Kakashi signed Team Kakashi up for the Chūnin Exams. Upon signing up, Sasuke and his team first met Rock Lee. Sasuke noticed how skilled Lee was in taijutsu and decided to copy it with his Sharingan. In the second stage of the Chūnin Exams, Sasuke met and fought Orochimaru and acquired a cursed seal from him. Seeing how he needed to get stronger, Sasuke sought help from Kakashi. Agreeing to help him, Kakashi taught Sasuke the Chidori.

Sasuke leaves Konohagakure

Sasuke leaves Konohagakure.

Some time ago after the Chūnin Exams, Sasuke reunited with his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. Enraged, Sasuke tried to kill Itachi, however, failed. Seeing as how he was unable to kill his brother because he wasn't strong enough, Sasuke left Konohagakure to seek power from Orochimaru.

After three years, Sasuke escaped from Orochimaru and formed a team of his own with the sole purpose of killing Itachi.

After leaving Konoha, Sasuke's personality became emotionless, darker and colder. He is driven by revenge and desire for power.

It is worth noting that, despite his popularity with opposite sex, Sasuke has always remained aloof when it comes to advances from women. This is highly due to his strong focus towards obtaining power and revenge. Despite his aloofness, many female characters such as Ino and Sakura still consider him as a "cool" type much to the chagrin of other male characters.

Sasuke full

Sasuke's full appearance.

Sasuke has onyx eyes, fair skin, and straight jet black hair. His hairstyle is consistent throughout the series with spiky hair on the middle to the back of his head and medium bangs on the front part, bordering his face. After defecting from his village, Sasuke wears dark blue pants and a bluish-white shirt, a blue cloth hanging from his upper stomach to his knees and a purple rope wrapped around his waist in which he carries his sword. He is considered handsome by his many admirers.

  • Sasuke's initial appearance when he was a genin.
  • Sasuke when he took the Chūnin Exams.

When Sasuke was still in Konohagakure, his clothing consisted of the traditional Uchiha clothing: a navy blue, short-sleeved shirt with a high collar and the Uchiha crest on the back and white arm warmers, along with white shorts.

In the Chūnin Exams, he wore a black, one-piece version of this outfit with many small arm-belts adorning his left arm and similar bands around both legs.

Sasuke clash with Lee

Sasuke clashing with Lee.

Rock Lee has mentioned that Sasuke copied his taijutsu with his Sharingan, granting him outstanding combat skills.

Chidori Katana

Sasuke wielding his Sword of Kusanagi.

Sasuke is a skilled user of kenjutsu and possesses a chokutō. In the anime, his swordsmanship uses impressive speed and precision behind his attacks, even able to match Lee's speed when using nunchaku.[1]

Nature Transformation

Great Dragon Fire

Sasuke unleashing Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique.

As a recognised member of the Uchiha, Sasuke has great proficiency in Fire Release. He can produce a barrage of giant dragon-shaped fireballs that can quickly burn an enemy, even with minimal contact.

Sasuke using Chidori.

Sasuke has a natural affinity for Lightning Release. Sasuke learned to manipulate it under Kakashi's guidance along with the Chidori, able to strike through most obstacles and severely injure his opponents. Another testament to his skills is his ability to channel his lightning chakra to emit electricity all over his body and through the ground to shield him and stun enemies simultaneously. He can also channel lightning chakra to his weapons for extreme cutting power. Sasuke's greatest element technique is Kirin, a technique that uses natural lightning, allowing Sasuke to perform it even when visibly exhausted and powerful enough to create a huge crater on top of the Hokage Monument.

Sasuke Sharingan

Sasuke's Sharingan.

Sasuke is one of the select members of the Uchiha clan to awaken this Kekkei Genkai. This dōjutsu grants Sasuke multiple enhanced visual powers. Sasuke gains immense clarity through it, able to observe and differentiate the flow of chakra, plus perceive everything within his sight with great detail and from that accurately predict nearly all of a target's movements. It also allows Sasuke to perfectly mimic a person's movements and even copy their techniques into his own arsenal, provided he is physically conditioned for it or risks greatly taxing his body. His Sharingan can also cast genjutsu, able to deceive opponents.

Mangekyō Sharingan

Sasuke's Mangekyo Sharingan

Sasuke's Mangekyō Sharingan.

Some time ago, Sasuke awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan. The tomoe of Sasuke's Mangekyō spread and converge along the edge of its iris, taking on the appearance of three intersecting ellipses. Not much is known about Sasuke's Mangekyō Sharingan abilities in the spin-off, however, he can access a kinjutsu that allows his body to become a bomb if any ninjutsu techniques touch him. As revealed in Naruto SD Powerful Shippūden, with his left Mangekyō, Sasuke can cast the black flames that burn anything, Amaterasu. With both eyes, Sasuke can create a gigantic humanoid warrior that fights on his behalf, Susanoo.

Sasuke has appeared many times in the Rock Lee spin-off manga and anime, but he officially appeared in a speaking role in Episode 47 wherein Taka encountered Team Guy.

Episode 51

In Episode 51, Sasuke ensues his plan, to avenge his brother, Itachi Uchiha, with the help of the Akatsuki. He, however, failed after his plans were thwarted by Lee, the shinobi of Konoha and, notably, Orochimaru.

Sasuke Curse Mark 2

Sasuke's curse seal's second level.

  • In chapter 27, a cameo appearance of Sasuke in his cursed seal's second level, given by Orochimaru, can be seen. When activated, Sasuke's skin turns dark grey with a black four-point star-mark between his eyes and across the bridge of his nose, his sclerae turn black, and his lips have a dark hue. He also grows claw-like nails and his hair grows to waist-length. At any time, he is able to grow large webbed hand-shaped wings on his back that gave him the ability to fly.
